Empire Theatre

Located in the suburb of Muizenberg in the south of Cape Town. The Empire Theatre was opened in 1941 and was situated on the beachfront adjacent to the then recently closed His Majesty’s Bioscope, and near the closed Elite Picture Palace. It was one of the last theatres to be designed by architect William Hood Grant and had stalls and circle seating.

The Empire Theatre closed in the mid-1970’s and the auditorium, which was situated behind the Beach Road facing apartments, was demolished circa 1976. The original facade still remains.
