According to a December 7, 1948, edition of the Santa Fe New Mexican, two new theatres opened on the same day. They were the El Paseo Theatre and a competitor, the Santa Fe Theatre, owned by Don Beers of the Beers Motor Co. Mr. Beers was new to the movie business and built the theatre on the same property as his automobile Agency.
The Santa Fe Theatre, after being taken over by its competitors in September of 1957, closed on October 27 and was converted to an automobile dealership. On November 21, 1958, the New Mexican reported that the Don Beers had filed suit for $483,000 because he had been denied first-run films. The defendants were the major film distributors and his former competitors, who ran the other two theatres in town.
