Rio Grande Theatre

The Rio Grande Theatre in downtown Las Cruces was opened July 29, 1926. It was closed about 1998 and donated to the Dona Ana Arts Council a year later. Funds were raised to renovate the theatre for live events and it reopened in late-2011.

The Rio Grande Theatre will open as a 420 seat performing arts/educational center in September of 2005. The Dona Ana Arts Council offices will relocate there at the end of July.

The theatre opened on July 29, 1926 with the film Mare Nostrum, directed by Rex Ingram and staring Alice Terry and Antonio Moreno.
