Found it. The Drive-In is on the south side of the town at approximately 213 S. Orange Street (US Bus 71). It is on the north side of the track complex and you can still make out the entrance & exit and the ramps. https://goo.gl/maps/Hvfm3
Boxoffice, July 11, 1953: “BUTLER, MO. – The new Sky-Vue Drive-In opened here recently with a capacity of 300 cars. Chet Borg of Fort Scott, Kas., is owner. Opening of the airer had been set for several weeks earlier, but recent severe windstorms did much damage to the huge screen tower, which at the time was only partially erected. The drive-in will be managed by H. H. McNabb.”
Launched June 3, 1953 with “California Conquest.”
The drive-in was still intact in 1987 and appearing to be operational or at least very well maintained.
By 1997, it had been completely demolished.
Today, the Butler High School Football Stadium reaches just into the southern part of the property which is otherwise still an open field. You can still see the imprint of the outline, ramps, and entrance & exit roads.
The Butler Drive-In originally scheduled to open on May 29, 1953 but was rescheduled to June 3, 1953 due to rain. It was first owned by Chet Borg of Fort Scott, Kansas.
