That’s April 1st, 1986.
The Adams and Paramount theatres closed on April 1st after massive insurance rate hikes.

Renamed Paramount Newark on September 4th, 1931. Grand opening ad posted.

Ssc48: I have added the organ details into the overview above.
It appears that the organ parts were abandoned with the theatre. Looking at the organ changers you can see rotted wooden pipes that are still there. What type of organ would have been ehre
Was there ever an organ in this theatre?
EsseXploreR, I knew that was coming. When I worked at the Arena on the next block, I could see the sag in the roof the past few years. I knew it was just a matter of time that this would happen. So sad.
As of 2021, half of the theater’s roof has collapsed. The weight of all the snow and ice we got was just too much for the old girl to withstand. I have not heard any updates on the redevelopment of the property since.
Article about “Joker” with screen shots of the “Newart”.

Don’t you mean “marquee?”
I loved seeing the Marquis prominently displayed in Joker.
DaveM, no they actually welded a T on for the filming, then replaced it. I was working at the arena last year when they were filming.
The Newark Paramount shows up as the “NEWART” in Joker, in the first scene where Arthur is twirling a sign for a going out of business sale at a neighboring store. I assume they digitally added the “T” (after physically removing the “K”.) I too hope the K was put back!
HowardBHass only the K is off. It now reads NEWAR.
MarkP, I hope they put the Newark letters back on after the film shoot!
While working at the arena yesterday, I took a walk by the paramount where they are getting ready for a new Warner Brothers film shoot next week. They took the “K” off of Newark on the marquee. The workers said its because they cant have Newark in the film. They will also be shooting on the road by the Adams theatre.
Ha, I didn’t catch that. Had my contacts in for 10 hours…
though both the Paramount vertical blade sign and the Newark letters on the marquee are iconic of the city of Newark, the renderings show those words replaced by Pharmacy!
Mixed-use project in the planning stages, that would preserve the facade with a new building behind it.

This article covers the Paramount and all the other vacant Newark theatres.

I was just in Newark today for a job interview and while I was taking a selfie of myself in front of the marquee…I was berated by local denizens “is that your welcome sign?”. I am educated and have no idea what they were saying…but it is such a shame that this place is not open. I have a certain cinephilic thirst for movie palaces…I have been told that it is tragically in horrible shape internally :( Apparently, they haven’t had anything inside for 30 years or better…
The Paramount is one of the 24 theaters in my new book, “After the Final Curtain: The Fall of the American Movie Theater,” which is available on Amazon or your local bookstore

I doubt the theater will be saved, but it’s nice to see someone cares.
Patsy, you think these two are bad, you should see the pictures of the Proctors Theatre in Newark.
