The Wayside Drive-In opened on May 6, 1954, featuring the 1953 drama “The Robe” with Richard Burton, Jean Simmons, and Victor Mature. It was opened by Martin Theatres from Columbus, Georgia, with a parking ramp that held 480 cars. Located beside the drive-in was Wayside Park and Beach. The opening night movie advertisement also advertised an amusement park. It was still listed as operating in the 1965 edition of Film Daily Yearbook, but had gone from the 1966 edition. In looking at aerials and pictures of the area, it looks the drive-in was never demolished until the late-1960’s.

I would love to know more about this drive-in. The idea of a drive-in theatre at Panama City Beach (or on ANY beach) is awesome!
I might be wrong though, but this probably closed in the early-1960s. I might be sure that it was not operational by 1962 judging by newspaper showings. A 1975 aerial view shows the drive-in but the screen was gone.
