The Westgate Cinemas opened as a twin on December 20, 1978. It was operated by Marcus Theatres. Created out of a carved out section of a former JC Penney department store.
Located in the fading Westgate Mall it became a quad screen. Toward the end they tried art films, Bollywood, stand-up comedy, and serving drinks in order to stay open. Due to competition for the art/indie crowd from the nearby Sundance theatres, the Westgate Art Cinemas closed on December 14, 2008.
The closed theatre could still be seen down a lonely corridor in what remained of the mall, the poster boxes silently facing the hallway. It was demolished in early-2021.

There are plans to completely demolish what remains of this mall. That means the former theatre space will be gone forever.
This was part of the Marcus Theatres. It originally opened on December 20, 1978. It was originally called Westgate Cinemas or Westgate Cinema I and II.
Status should be changed to demolished. The entire mall was taken down recently to be replaced by new development.
