The Chateau Theatre, located in the Lake View neighborhood on North Broadway near N. Halsted Street and W. Grace Street, was designed by August C. Willmanns and operated by Albert Fuchs for the Ascher Brothers circuit. The building is shown in a rendering and described as “exceedingly attractive”, which I would agree with. It was in a gabled medieval chateau style. It also was said to include offices, a ballroom, 22 lanes of bowling, and 22 billiards tables, in addition to a garage, and the adjacent hotel. (Chicago Tribune, August 8, 1915).
In 1926, the Aschers' lease was to run out and it was announced that it would go burlesque. In 1930 Essaness acquired it and announced it would be remodeled lobby to screen and recieve a new vertical. It was renamed the Vogue Theatre from November 21, 1930. It burned in 1958, and was operating until then. The building was demolished a few years later.

Here is a 1917 review of the theatre
We used to go to record hops here at the Vogue ballroom up on the 2nd floor in the 1950’s Probably 1957 to 1959. The record hops were free and were sponsored by WIND radio and were hosted by Milo Hamilton. We saw all types of big name stars there like Paul Anka and Jerry Butler. Does anyone else remember going there?
This opened as Vogue on November 21st, 1930. Its grand opening ad can be found in the photo section.

Old newspaper ads have the address as 3812 Bdwy. But newspapers are known to make mistakes.
Hi I lived across from the Vogue theatre in 1958.I rememberthe fire at the theatre.The Woolworths was at the north corner and we would eat there. Marigold bowling was on the south end of Broadway and Grace. Does anyone remember the name of the chinese restaurant across from the Vogue theatre? There was also a small theatre on Sheridan rd between Broadway and Pine Grove that showed Charlie Chaplin movies.Does anyone remember the theatre name. Are there more pictures of the Vogue theatre or the 3800 n. Broadway pictures. Please post.
The only photos of the Vogue so far are those in Photos between Overview and Comments under the theatre name at the top of the page. The Guild Theatre was the one you are thinking of on Sheridan between Broadway and Pine Grove. It has it’s own page under Nearby Theaters on the right above under Additional Info.
