Lyceum Cinema

Located in the Garston district to the south of Liverpool. The Lyceum Cinema was opened on 11th December 1922 with Tom Mix in “Hands Off”. It was a rather narrow cinema, which had seating is stalls and circle levels. The proscenium was 17 feet wide. When an RCA sound system was installed in 1929, it was renamed Lyceum Talkie Theatre.

Later reverting back to its original Lyceum Cinema name, it was closed on 10th October 1959 with James Cagney in “Never Steal Anything Small” and Audie Murphy in “No Name on the Bullet”.

It went over to commercial use, and was a motor tyre store for several years. It is now an auto repair shop.

It was a conversion of a malthouse which explains the narrowness of the auditorium. All the front was new in 1922.
