Viking Cinema

Located in Largs, north Ayrshire. Built for the Bridgend Picture House Company and opened on 31st October 1939. Commemorating the Battle of Largs where the Scots trounced the Viking warriors in 1263. The flamboyant design featured a portcullis over the entrance and the prow of a Viking ship projecting forwards towards the street. The Viking Cinema had 1,292-seats and a cafe. In 1948 it was sold to George Palmer and joined his chain of Associated G.P. Cinemas.

The Viking Cinema closed on the 4th August 1973 and subsequently became a bottling plant and distribution centre. This landmark was later demolished.
