Mygrandmother managed this cinema in 1979 after leaving the Regal. I cant be certain , but im sure i was told at the time it had 800 seats.It was great fun going up to the projection room, the projectionist, Harold was in his 70s at the time. I believe after the closure of the Regal there were plans to refurbish the Wallaw. The video revolution meant it closed summer 1982.
In the 1930s the Wallaw had a Art Deco interior and partial exterior rebuild. Internally this included a new ceiling, proscenium and splay walls. Externally the entrance received new doors, a new canopy and 30s style windows and design. The side wall to the right of the entrance was also modernised. You can see the difference in styles on the above photo. To the left of the 30s style entrance is the original decor.
