Located in Ashington, Northumberland. The Wallaw Picture Palace was opened around early-1912 and had a seating capacity for 450. Permission was granted in 1914 to replace the building, but this was halted by the outbreak of World War I.
In 1920, the Wallaw Picture House was rebuilt, and re-opened with 1,100 seats. It was operated by the Wallaw Pictures Ltd. and became the head office for the company. It was equipped with a British Thomson Houston(BTH) sound system in 1930.
By 1943 it had been re-named Wallaw Cinema. In 1972 it was taken over by the Noble Organisation, and they continued to operate it as a cinema until it was closed on 31st July 1982 with Albert Finney in “Annie”. It was converted into a shop and an amusement arcade.

In the 1930s the Wallaw had a Art Deco interior and partial exterior rebuild. Internally this included a new ceiling, proscenium and splay walls. Externally the entrance received new doors, a new canopy and 30s style windows and design. The side wall to the right of the entrance was also modernised. You can see the difference in styles on the above photo. To the left of the 30s style entrance is the original decor.
