Located in Patricroft, to the west of Eccles, today part of Greater Manchester. The Public Hall was built in 1871 at the corner of Franklin Street & Vane Street. The hall was upstairs on the first floor, and the ground floor was used as a laundry & stables. In October 1889, it operated as a drama theatre, and also for meetings and dances.
Moving pictures were first screened here in 1907, and in 1908, it was redecorated and re-opened as the Picture House. In 1910, it was redecorated again, and a sloping floor was installed. The Public Hall screened its last film in 1916.
In recent years, this very basic building has been in use as a carpenter’s workshop in the former upstairs hall, and an auto repair shop in the ground floor portion on the building.
