The theater was opened in the Fall of 2011 as the South Shore equivalent of the Huntington Cinema Arts Center. It is located in one of the commercial units of the ArtSpace Building. The name was derived from the now demolished, local Plaza Theater. It was originally the goal to obtain the old theater and upgrade and convert it into a cinema and media arts center. That, unfortunately didn’t happen. Although small with 100 seats, the interest is great, witness to the fact that, as a result of a fundraising campaign, digital equipment was purchased and installed in December 2013. New seats were installed in 2016 bringing the seating capacity down to 68.

Theater is reopening Christmas Day having completed the transition to digital. They’ve also created a lounge area where wine and cheese will be available before and after the film. Reopening presentation is Nebraska.
In addition to the new lounge and digital projection, new seats have been added bringing capacity to 100. The Plaza has added a second venue, the second floor over the BrickHouse Brewery on Main Street. Seating is forty something. Films and comedy nights are held there. The main “stage” is also, occasionally a music venue.
Now they have a campaign to get real theater seats and a marquee and vertical.
New seats are being installed as I key this in. Don’t know what it will do to the capacity since they look substantial.
Capacity down to 68 by actual count.
On June 21st they held a special celebration to welcome the new exterior signage for the theater. Have to go by and take a picture to share.
As promised. Uploaded photos of the new signage on the front (Terry Street) and also that on the side facing Ocean Avenue. Very low key in keeping with the building and the neighborhood.
No telephone response. Not a good sign.
