The Tivoli Cinema was opened by P.J. Kelly, a local publican, on 1st July 1918. It did not last long; some records show it as closing in 1923, but it is generally thought to be more likely it closed in 1926/27. Unusually, it operated on Sundays, most likely without a licence. Mr Kelly was well known for his performances on the violin, and often played between films. The Tivoli Cinema was situated opposite the Arcadian Cinema and, like that cinema, the building was swallowed up in the housing redevelopment in the 1960’s.
