The Civic Theater opened on October 21, 1936. The theatre was owned by O. F. Sullivan. As a movie theatre, the Civic Theatre was closed by 1960. The theatre was remodeled and renamed the Civic Playhouse which was a live performance venue. The Civic Playhouse operated until around 1973. The building was then sold to the Wichita State Bank in 1973 and was demolished in 1977.

We had our prom (Goddard High School) there in 1967 as I recall. I do remember going to the movies there in the late ‘50’s.
