The Warner Theatre was open as early as 1940. Seating was listed at 200. This may have been the Washington Theatre prior to being known as the Warner. I have found nothing to the positive about that other than the Washington Theatre existed from 1930 or earlier to about 1940. It was also located on E. Main Street. The Warner Theatre closed in the mid to late-1950’s. This building is still standing but looks vacant.

Any additional information on the Warner Theatre would be appreciated.

The Warner Theatre might have operated in two different locations, or it was rebuilt in 1946. The January 10, 1947, issue of The Film Daily ran this item:

“Warner Opens in Salem, Ky.

“Salem, Ky. — The new Warner Theater here, built and owned by L. Conyer, has opened. The new modern streamlined 350-seater cost approximately $25,000.”

In the late 50’s my father operated this movie theatre and the first movie he opened with was “Yellowstone Kelly”. My grandmother sold homemade popcorn, Hershey’s candy bars and small bottled Coca-Cola.
