*The Capitol Theatre was opened on April 7, 1928 with Richard Dix in “Sporting Goods” & Billie Dove in “The Love Mart”. It was operated by the Robert Family and from 1947 by United Amusements, which was owned by Famous Players. It was designed by Montreal based architect Daniel-John Creighton, with interior decorations by interior decorator Emmanuel Briffa. Seating was provided for 2,603-seats in orchestra and balcony levels. * 1966 the Robert Family sells its interest in the Capitol Theatre to Famous Players * 1978 It was announced that this theatre was to be split into two cinemas. The city of Trois-Rivières took steps to take it over, and conversion was abandoned, but movies end. * 1979 renamed Salle J. Antonio-Thompson * 1984-September 1987 renovations and expansions. It was closed for restoration & renovations in February 2025 with a reopening planned for October 2026.
