The 500 seat Columbia Theatre opened in 1913. The Columbia Theatre was destroyed by fire in 1937. The Uptown Theatre, built to replace the Columbia Theatre was designed by John Calvin Stevens and his son John Howard Stevens. The Uptown Theatre opened on August 8, 1938 and was closed by 1959.

As of 1942, the Uptown Th. in Bath was run by the M&P Circuit of Boston, an affiliate of Paramount Theatres.
The Theatre Historical Society archive has the MGM Theatre Report for the Uptown; it’s Card # 340. Address is 180 Front St. There is an exterior photo dated April 1941. Condition is Good. The report says it opened in 1939, shows MGM films, and had 724 seats. Competing is the Opera House. 1940 population was 10,200.
Just FYI, in 1905 my grandfather bought a store at 178 Front Street, and it was advertised as being “under the Columbia Theatre.”
