State Theatre

Opened as the Princes Theatre and was open in 1935. Seating was listed at 410. By the mid-1940’s the name was changed to the State Theatre. It was operated by Cherokee Amusement Co. The State Theatre closed in the mid-1950’s. I believe the building is now used as a Baptist Church.

This building still stands at 41 N. Main but has been extensively remodeled. The upstairs is residential while the downstairs is being used for storage.

The June 25, 1955 issue of Boxoffice mentioned that the new drive-in about to open in Marshall was “the only theatre in town. The old uptown house is now a furniture store.”
