The James Island 8 opened by 1988. It was taken over by Carmike on March 22, 1995 screening “Let It Ride”, “Casualties Of War”, “Rude Awakening”, “Turner & Hooch”, “When Harry Met Sally”, “The Abyss”, “Uncle Buck” and “Dead Poets Society”. Carmike operates the James Island 8. Amenities include, digital projection and sound, 3D capabilities, online ticketing and first run attractions. It was closed by March 2017.

Does anybody know if this actually opened in 1995? An article int he 3/22/1995 edition of the Greenwood Index-Journal states that Carmike had recently purchased the theatre from a privately held company… it sound like perhaps it had been operating for some time before that.
This operated as early as 1988. It had the James Island Cinema name but also had a subsidiary name called Sandlapper Cinemas.
