Cinema 18 opened in August 21, 1968. The feature film was Sidney Poitier in “For Love of Ivy”. Contrary to what the name of this cinema might imply, Cinema 18, was a single screen theatre. From 1983 Cinema 18 was showing adult movies. It closed in 1987.

I went to this theater when it first opened in the late 1960’s. At that time they showed first run movies,but because of it’s small size and location it could not compete with theaters like the Warner, Strand and Dipson’s Plaza Theater. As noted in the prior comment it became an adult theater.

The Cinema 18 opened on August 21st, 1968, as the first new cinema to open in Erie in over 20 years, and closed in 1987 after Cinemette dropped it in 1986. Adult movies from 1983.
