East Macon Theatre

The 740-seat East Macon Theatre was opened on August 1, 1941 with Bob Steele in “Billy the Kid’s Gun Justice”. It was operated by Paramount Pictures Inc. through their subsidiary Lucas & Jenkins. It was later operated by the Georgia Theatre Company. Closed in September 1951. Street view looks like a parking lot for the facility next door.

The August 12, 1944, issue of The Billboard referred to the East Macon Theatre as “…one of Macon’s leading show houses.” Jack DeVoe had just been named manager of the house, part of the Lucas & Jenkins circuit.
