The Orpheum Theatre opened in 1916 on the site of a previous house of the same name. It was initially operated as a combination house, featuring both movies and vaudeville.
The new Orpheum Theatre was built for F.J. Dion, who also operated the Olympic Theatre and Princess Theatre in Franklin, and had operated other theaters in western Pennsylvania. After the demise of vaudeville, the Orpheum Theatre operated as a movie house until closing in 1956. The building is still standing, though it is no longer recognizable as a former theater.

The April 29, 1916, issue of The American Contractor identified the architect of F.J. Dion’s new Orpheum Theatre at Franklin as Harvey Brakeman, Sandy Lake, Pennsylvania.
