- Jan 26, 2013 — Smitty's Cinema renovating theater for return to Windham
Located on Route 302 in the Windham Mall. The Windham 5 Star Cinema opened on June 20, 1997. By 2005 it had been renamed Windham Mall Cinema and was operated by the Boston Culinary Group. It was closed in early-January 2013.
It has been taken over by Smitty’s Cinema chain of pub cinemas, who had previously operated a similar cinema in Windham from 1995, which they operated for 10 years, until its closing soon after the 5 Star Cinema opened. The regular theatre seats are being taken out to be replaced by restaurant style seating and tables, to seat 550 in the seven auditoriums. An eighth screen seating 200 is due to open in 2014. A new building has been built adjacent to the cinema which will be the kitchen.
Smitty’s Cinema opened April 2013, equipped with digital projection.
