The Lake Lanier Drive-In Theatre opened on October 7, 1950. It featured the 1948 movie “Miss Tatlock’s Millions” with John Lund, Wanda Hendrix and Barry Fitzgerald. It was opened by J. L. and W. L. Edwards. The parking ramp would hold 267 cars and it had in-a-car speakers. Stewart-Everett Theatres operated the theatre in 1955. In looking at movie advertisements, it looks like in closed in September, 1964. It is now a Family Dollar Store.

That is great! I grew up here in Tryon, and remember that well. What wonderful memories. The Family Dollar is gone now. I think the latest pic I saw here was accurate. The theater had the old speakers that hang on the car window. We lived with ¼ mile, and could ride our bikes up on the hill, and see the big screen. Cool stuff from Tryon’s past.
