Opened my sophomore year at Virginia Tech on June 24, 1977 with George C. Scott in “Islands in the Stream” & Roy Scheider in “Sorcerer”. It had two screens and the staff would check your purse or back-pack to make sure you weren’t bringing in any food or drink. It closed as a movie theatre on February 18, 2001 with Meg Ryan in “Proof of Life” & Ryan Phillippe in “Antitrust”. It briefly operated as a stage playhouse, closing on November 17, 2001 presenting the play Three Day of Rain". The building was auctioned off on December 11, 2001 and was converted into office space. It has since been demolished.

This theatre status needs to be changed from Open to Closed. The building was knocked down at least a decade ago while I was still a VT student, and a new building not related to the theatre was put in its place. The Capri Twin sign remained up for several years past demolition but when I was back in Blacksburg a few years ago, it looked like it, too, had finally been removed. To my knowledge there’s no theatre operating in or around that area now by that name …
Operated by Martin Theatres then later Carmike Cinemas.
The Capri Twin opened June 24, 1977 with “Islands in the. Stream” and “Sorcerer.” Carl L. Patrick, Sr. acquired Martin Theatres from Fuqua Industries in February of 1982 becoming Carmike Cinemas . (The company’s name was a combination of the first names of Patrick’s two sons, Carl Jr. and Michael).
Regal Cinemas took on the venue beginning January 14, 1994. Regal would later demote it to a discount, sub-run policy closing on February 18, 2001 with “Proof of Life” and “Antitrust.” It had a very brief run as a live stage venue ending on November 17, 2001 with the play “Three Days of Rain.” The theatre was auctioned on December 11, 2001. In 2002, the building was expanded and converted to office space.
