Opened by Esquire Theatres of America Inc. on June 26, 1970 with Donald Sutherland in “M.A.S.H.” & Yves Montand in “Z”, the Rome Cinema Center was a twin theatre located in small shopping center in North Rome, NY on Black River Boulevard. I worked there as a doorman/concessionaire while in high school in early-1970’s. On March 20, 1974 it was taken over by CinemaNational.
There were no ‘screens’ - movies were projected onto the white walls in front of the theatre, the speakers underneath on the floor.
It was closed September 3, 1987 with Patrick Dempsey in “Can’t Buy Me Love” & Richard Dreyfuss in “Stakeout”.

I worked at this theater in 1972. Good job for high school student(s). First movies that played when I started work were “Deliverance” and “Maid In Sweden”. Memorable showings of “Mark Of The Devil”, “Shaft” and “Concert For Bangladesh”. They paid us in CASH!
Closed on September 3, 1987 with “Can’t Buy Me Love” in Screen 1 and “Stakeout” in Screen 2.
