Located in the Derbyshire village of Chapel-en-le-Frith. The Empress Cinema was opened in 1924. It was ‘reverse’ cinema which had the screen at the front of the building. In 1938, the auditorium was extended and the Empress Cinema was given a new Art Deco style facade. All done to the plans of noted cinema architect Joseph Gomersall of the architectural firm Drury & Gomersall of Manchester (architectural firm Belshaw and Gomersall are also mentioned in some accounts). Seating was now provided on a stadium plan, with a raised stepped section at the rear.
Always independently operated, the Empress Cinema was closed in 1961 with John Mills in “Swiss Family Robinson”. It was then used as a bingo club, which operated until 1971. It was demolished and The Shoulder of Mutton pub was built on the site.

There is a picture of the Empress Cinema in 1935 on this webpage.
According to the information listed on the above webpage, this is where the Empress once stud. Whilst looking for this place I did find The playhouse on Eccles Road.
