The 600 seat State Theatre opened on March 7, 1939 with The Jones Family in “Hot Water”. It was operated by the Qualls family, who also operated the town’s Paramount Theatre. The State Theatre closed in 1976.

Chuck, a link to an article from the Burlington Times-News is attached. http://timesnews125.com/history/19390307.php I believe Andrews Street no longer exists. The State is where I saw “The Truth About Spring” with Hayley Mills, and “Shenandoah”, which made me cry. I think I was eight.
I remember going to movies here while I was a student at Elon College in the late 1960s.
