Although there is not a lot of information about its early life, this was originally a twin-screener according to an article released by Allentown’s Morning Call. It was also once the only indoor movie theater in Carbon County.

This is now known as Split Rock Galleria Theater. This housed 87 seats.

This theatre seems to be closed. The link on the resort website is dead.

Do you have any information about the Split Rock Theatre during its early days? There was one newspaper article saying that this theater used to be a twin during the 1980s. Unfortunately, other information about it remains a mystery.

This started life as a 250-seat single-screener under the name “Galleria Theatre at Split Rock Resort”, and opened its doors on February 8, 1985, bringing a mix of first-run and second-run movies to the Pocono Mountains, Lake Harmony, and Albrightsville. A second screen was added later in the 1980s.

Actual opening date is February 8, 1985.

  • It was once a twin during the late-1980s and 1990s (even surviving a bankruptcy in 1993), but some point later in its history, one of the two screens closed. However, I looked through its website recently, and the last film (or if not one of the last films) the Split Rock Resort Theatre played is “Arthur The King” in 2024. It most likely that the 87-seat single-screener itself closed in 2024, as a Facebook comment confirms that the entire resort was placed on sale the following year in early 2025.
