41 Drive-In

Opened around 1948, it was still open in 1983, but was later closed and demolished. The People’s Church and two apartment complexes are on the site in 2012. The screen faced away from Highway 41 and the drive-in had a playground. Mr. Clyde Jacobs, ‘Mr. Movies’ in Shelbyville was the manager, he was also the manager of the Capri Theatre in Shelbyville. Remember Mr. Thurmond, the African-American who sold tickets? Mr Joe Barley was counting heads and taking in the money. Mr. Jacobs was a partial owner and the final manager. It was previously operated by Masco Enterprises Inc.

It couldn’t have been demolished in the early 1980’s(there is an ad in the photo section, showing it reopening on ¼/1983 with “Fast times at Ridgemont High”.
