The Los Angeles Times announced on June 20, 1998 that Edwards Theatres would be building the largest theatre in southeast Los Angeles. The $15 million theater was scheduled to open in June of 1999. After various delays the 4,560-seat theater, with a Mayan inspired design, finally opened on December 15, 2000. On March 27, 2009 an Imax screen opened in a converted existing auditorium. By 2025 three of the auditoriums have become ScreenX screens. As with all Edwards Theatres, it is now part of Regal Entertainment Group.

Regal intends to add RPX here, according to the theater’s Instagram page. This is the second theater in Los Angeles county that will have RPX, with the first one being Regal Sherman Oaks Galleria.
