And I worked for Koff at the Keswick from 71-75 during HS.
I was a DM for Sameric from 84-87. This was one of my theaters from 85-87. Very busy, usually A list films. Interesting Six Degrees point…Prior to Sameric taking over, the theater was part of a Partnership of Abel,Levinson and Koff who also operated the Keswick,Parkwood Manor and Theater 1812 theaters in the area.
Reopened as Eric Twin Lawrence on November 22nd, 1978. Grand opening ad posted.
My Grandparents lived near there. I saw lots of movies there in the 70s & 80s. These three come to mind Alien, The Bad News Bears & Neighbors with Dan Aykroyd & John Belushi.
This opened on October 10th, 1957. Grand opening ad in photo section.
I saw the filmed version of the Royal Ballet production of Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet” at the Lawrence Park Theatre on a Friday night in October 1966. It featured Rudolf Nureyev as Romeo and Margot Fonteyn as Juliet. It was one of the first instances of a ballet that was filmed for theatrical release. It was also my first date with a girl from Lansdowne-Aldan High School who will remain nameless. It was a night that I will never forget.
A hopping theater in the ‘60s, Sound of Music, And It’s a Mad Mad Mad World, Were a few of the Matinees shown. Used to be a Toy Store next door W. T. Grant?
Movies I saw here: Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, Problem Child.
Actor Bruce Davison (X-Men, Willard, TV’s Harry & the Hendersons) was an usher at this theater in the late 1960s.
He told me so at a Monster Mania horror con in Jersey a few months ago.

Right across from barnes nobles formly LP theater was Movies Unlimited. I bought lots of movies there that you couldnt get anywhere else. They would special order stuff. I think they lasted until 2000 or 2001…
ok, got my answer here. The theater closed on October 20th 1991. the last 3 movies that shown here were these,
Dead Again.
necessary roughness.
and a movie called :Shout:
lawrence park barckley square city line theatres all closed within 3years of each other 1990-1993 what a shamee
i’ll try and pinpoint it.. when i go to library and find out what the last 2 movies that shown there were, and i will take some snapshots of it today…
Ronnie it closed in 1991 I am not exactly sure when. I know when I was home for Christmas in 91 it was closed and they were going to put a Barnes and Noble there. Once United Artists purchased the Sam Eric Chain they closed most of their theaters. Nothing from my childhood there is open including GCC/Eric/ UA Clifton heights Twin
i would love to know when this theater actually closed. marple 10 right down the street opened in nov of 90.. so i wonder if this theater closed soon after or before… ? i wil do some research soon..
The address for the LP Theatre/Eric Lawrence Park Twin/Barnes & Noble is 1901 Sproul Road. To the left of this theatre was Lit Brothers Department Store, which opened as Snellenburgs
The Lawrence Park Theatre was twinned between August 1974 to December 1974. Which was even before Sameric Theatres acquired this theatre, which was sometime after April, 1977
The Breakfast Club also played here in spring of 1985.
Man,, i was there tonight at the barnes and nobles where it once stood. Can’t belive they twinned that big screen. must have been the late 70’s can anyone confirm around when that would have been??
tinseltoes. great find. i never seen the theater before. always heard about it.. wow. it looked really big.. Anyway. did some more research.. In summe of 1985, Rambo- First Blood Part 2 and LifeForce both played here….
I used to go there when I was a kid in the 60s and 70s. It was a GREAT large screen before the Eric chain took over and chopped it in half basically ruining one of the last big screen theaters in the area.
When I was in the area in 1991 ir had benn covnereted to a bookstore.
This theater never really shown any horror movies, they mainly stuck to dramas and comedy’s and some sci-fi’s too.. Not sure when it left the shopping center. somewhere between 89-90 something.. i first visited the barnes and nobles in fall of 95. it was gone by then .
