Located in the Concord West district of Sydney. Built in 1928 this rather basic looking theatre went through a dizzy parade of owners, leaseholders and name changes. In 1930 it was the Arcadia Theatre. In 1938 new owners changed the name to the Royal Theatre and remodelled the interior with decorative plasterwork and new lighting.
The theatre went through three more sets of owners in the 1940’s and finally leased to Greater Union who named it Odeon.
Closing came in 1959 with the last double bill being “Carry On Nurse” and “Broth Of A Boy”. The building was used as a furniture store until 1969 when it was demolished and the site occupied by a KFC.

The Odeon became squash courts. I lived a few houses along Nirranda St. and played there often in the early sixties. The courts were removed and the empty “shell” of the building became the furniture shop.
