Event Cinemas Burwood opened in Westfield Burwood Shopping Centre(reopened on the site of the original Westfield Burwood Shopping Centre on 17th August 2000), Event Cinemas Burwood opened on 14th November 2000.
The original Westfield Burwood Shopping Centre opened in October 1966(one of the first shopping centres in Australia, if not the first!?), partially on the site of the Hoyts Astor Theatre(later called Hoyts Burwood)-(it has it’s own listing on the Cinema Treasures website). The shopping centre is half the size it is today, and the Hoyts Astor was the first Hoyts Cinema in a Westfield shopping centre. The original Westfield Burwood Shopping Centre and old converted Hoyts Astor Cinema was demolished in (1999 or 2000?). It was the first Westfield Shopping to be completely demolished.
