The Regal Cinema was opened in May 1934. It was a project of Victor Harrison’s VEH Cinemas, and was built on the site of a house belonging to a representative of MGM.
The Regal Cinema was never a great success. It was sold to the Ager circuit, then by 1940, it became part of the Lou Morris chain. In the 1950’s it was taken over by Hudson Cinemas Ltd, and was closed in the 1960’s.
It was demolished and a Woolworth’s store was built on the site.

In the pictures section the image of the tabs with the white lines on them is, I am reasonably certain, of The Kino in Walton On he Naze which was situated on the sea front and visibly smaller than The Regal.
