The Original Palace Braintree

Located on the corner of Fairfield Road and Victoria Street, Braintree, Essex. The Picture Palace Cinema was opened in December 1912 by Cyril Getliffe & H. Thurston Jr. Advertising on its canopy ‘Electric Photo Plays & High Class Variety’. All seating was on a single level. By 1927 it was operated by the R. Tozel & S.E. Linsell Circuit.

It was taken over by the Shipman & King chain around January 1929, and they closed it in late-1934.

Shipman & King demolished the Palace Cinema and built their new Embassy Cinema on the site, which opened on 8th April 1935. (It has its own page on Cinema Treasures).
