Magic Theatre

In December of 1947 the Twin Falls Times- News reported that the Magic Theatre was having its grand opening on Christmas day. The Magic Theatre, built by Floyd Gambrel, was said to be completely modern and with a cry room. The 400-seat theater, which advertised regularly in the Time-News, had four changes of programs a week. The Magic Theatre played second-run films, leaving the first runs to three Theatres in Twin Falls, about five miles away.

It was closed from the middle of February to December of 1956. On December 23, 1956 its ad proclaimed “Grand Reopening! Newly Remodeled. We now have one of the widest screens in Southern Idaho” (although a look at the exterior would certainly question that claim.)

In its waning days it was only open on weekends. It is assumed to have closed for good on April 11, 1958 when its last ad appeared on the movie pages of the Times-News. The old Roxy Theatre in Twin Falls had already closed on April 27, 1957. By the mid-1960’s the theater was refered to as the the “old Magic Theatre” and was later advertised as holding revival meetings.
