Lavering Theatre

1914 accounts in the Twin Falls Daily News noted that E. C. Lavering was building an opera house next to his furniture Store, which he had built in 1908. The Lavering Theatre formally opened on November 7, 1914 with a stage play. A little more than seven years later the Daily News said on January 14, 1922 that the Lavering Theatre would now be run strictly as a moving picture house, which may have been a response to the previous October opening of the new Orpheum Theatre.

After three years as a silent movie theater, the building was sold in 1925 and The Daily News reported that it was the new owners intention to level the floor and remodel the building. In October of 1927 it became a skating rink for about a year until it was converted into an auto dealership by combining space with the adjoining Danceland, which now occupied the corner site where the furniture store was. In 1928 the building was remodeled into a Packard auto dealership and remained a car dealership under various owners until 1959. In 1959 it was converted to Blacker appliance and furniture store, which in 2011 was still at the location. The Lavering Theatre was the building in the middle of the block, with the curved facing at the top.
