I went to see Starship Invasions there, back in 1978, just before a major snowstorm hit the region. The building was split between a movie house and an OTB betting parlor.

You’re right about being able to hear the sound from the adjoining theater, Garth. My boss from my old job when I was in college once complained about the lack of soundproofing between screens. He went to the Rae to see “Nashville” and could hear the ending of “The Hindenburg” when the titular zeppelin exploded, as that movie was playing next door.

Was this a Jerry Lewis cinema when it first opened? The weird thing about this and the other twin the same owner had was they never called their schedules into the papers. When they played first run they had the studio block ads, but at the end with second run double bills they needed that to let people know they were open???????

i recall it being a very crappy theatre, in light of the still open paramount , fox etc. you could hear the traffic from outside on hylan blvd.,and you could hear the soundtrack from the adjoining theatre as well!

I believe that this theater succumbed to the megaplexes on Staten Island. In the end it tried to stay open by offering bargain-priced double features.
