The Lyric Theater was located on the second floor of the O. M. Bishop Department Store Building in Elizabeth, IL. When it opened in 1916, it was the largest movie theater in Jo Daviess County with a seating capacity of 500. The Lyric Theater was also known as Bishop’s Opera House–when live stage performances were scheduled the screen could be moved (on a track) off to the side of the stage. The theater showed motion pictures from 1916 into the late-1940’s. The theater/opera house is currently vacant, but has retail use on the first floor.
