Starlight Drive-In Marquee

Located in the Cannelton district to the south of Tell City, the Starlite Drive-In was opened in 1950. I have not been able to find much info on the Starlight Drive-In. It was closed in 1987 and in 2016 all that remains is the marquee.

I grew up in Tell City and the Starlite was a huge part of the teenage social life. Friday night was date night, which was usually a trip to the drive in, and often times Saturday night found me and my buddies back to enjoy the movie together.

Found It!

The address (at least for Google) is 9208 Old State Road 37, Tell City, IN. Today, the land is private property with very little indicating it was once a drive-in.

However, the marquee is still up at the corner of Old State Road 37 and Starlight Road. http://tinyurl.com/hfj2z3p

Edited from my May 18, 2024 (1:17 PM) comment:

The Starlite Drive-In (not Starlight) opened its gates on July 25, 1949 with Cary Grant in “The Bachelor And The Bobby-Soxer” along with an unnamed cartoon and a newsreel. It was closed on August 17, 1986 with “Ferris Buehler’s Day Off” and “Back to School”, and an auction was held in March 1987.

The marquee was still standing as of October 2023.

This was named Starlite, not Starlight.
