Located in the Paddock Head suburb of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. The Premiere Picture Palace opened on 18th October 1922 with “The Romance of Mary Tudor”. Built on a steeply sloped plot of land, the small entrance led into the circle, and patrons had to use stairs to go down to the stalls seating area. The projection box was at the rear of the stalls under the circle.
The Premier Picture Palace was sold to the Star Cinemas chain in 1950, and soon after there was a fire. It was redecorated and a new proscenium was built (but not a CinemScope sized one). The Premier Picture Palace was closed in 1957 with Peter Finch in “The Shiralee”.
It was converted into a print works, which lasted until recently. In 2011, it is a ‘cash & carry’ wholesale drinks store.
