The Rio Theatre was the much smaller next-door neighbor of the Rialto Theatre, playing second-run and B pictures. Like the Rialto Theatre, the Gordon family operated it for many years. It was opened on September 5, 1936 with Fred Astaire in “Top Hat”. During the World War II era they sometimes played midnight shows to accommodate the military personnel from the local bases.
