The independently owned Lake Elsinore Theatre opened in March of 1924. Its last ad appeared in the Los Angeles Times on August 28, 1950, just days before the opening of the new and modern Lake Theatre, three blocks away. It is not known if both theaters were under the same management.

The Lake Elsinore Historical Society says a large fire occurred there in 1961, which attracted spectators from all over town. The building recovered from the fire and it still stands today, most recently occupied by an insurance agency. Look for the white-front building, the second structure north of the city parking lot.

An article in a 2003 issue of the newsletter of Fullerton Heritage (PDF here) about Riverside architect G. Stanley Wilson, who designed Fullerton’s City Hall, attributes the design of the Lake Elsinore Theatre to him. Wilson is also noted as architect of a theater at Lake Elsinore in the November 7, 1924, issue of Southwest Builder & Contractor.
