Chuck, I was just wondering if you have all this info,do you ever submit a theatre or Drive-in or just don’t have the time and let other members like me put them on and you and a few others “flesh them out” ? Great pictures.
The 215 E Main St is for the Norton Theatre (indoor). The Sunset was located on the SE corner of W Lincoln St and Road W1.
PLEASE ADD TO THE ADDRESS:
WEST LINCOLN STREET & ROAD W 1
If you go to the Map you can still see part of the Drive-In.
Open ~1955-~1985? Can anyone verify the exact dates?
Seems to have been closed in 1967.
Owned from 1961-1964 by Commonwealth Theatres, Inc. of Kansas City, Mo., Richard H. Orear, President, they had over 110 theaters in Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming.
More info and photos always welcome.
215 E. Main St. is the address of the Hardtop Norton Theater “Downtown”.
It wasn’t when I wrote it up.
A more accurate address for this theater is 10675 Rd W 1, Norton, KS 67654. This points directly to the drive in. Now Norton Livestock Inc.
Please update.
The local newspaper reports a 1952 opening that was delayed when the screen tower collapsed at construction.
