This theater was built in 1907 by Stanley Newell as "The Newell Theatre" on the site currently occupied by the Bar Building at 199 Main Street. At the time it was called Railroad Avenue. In 1911, the theater changed its name to the Court Square Theatre, but then changed back to the Newell Theatre in 1913.
By 1917 it was operating as the Palace Theatre. It was partially demolished in 1928 to make way for the Bar Building. The rear portion of the theater was kept standing as part of the Bar Building, but was demolished in the last few years for construction of the Ritz Carlton White Plains.
