Located on Bank Top between Montrose Street and Stansfield Street. The pe-existing King’s Hall was converted into a cinema, opening on 28th June 1909. The auditorium runs parallel to the street and had a 24 feet wide proscenium.
Always independently operated, it was sold to new owners in 1952 and re-named Ritz Cinema.
The Ritz Cinema was closed on 1st February 1958, and was sold for other uses. Today it is a Tesco Express supermarket.

There is a picture here: http://tinyurl.com/4ad7zyj “Lost in a Harem” was released in 1944 in the U.S. but I was not able to find a date for the U.K. release. The signage shows the theatre was named the Ritz, so it apparently was taken in 1952 or after.
