The Dixie Auto-Vue was opened on August 6, 1949 with Richard Halliburton in “India Speaks” & Don ‘Red’ Barry in “Ringside”. By 1960 it had been renamed Starlite Drive-In. Car capacity was listed at 200 cars. The drive-in closed in 1989 and was demolished by 1993.

According to the Washington County Historical Society, this drive-in opened as the Dixie Auto Vu, “built by a Mr. Thornton in about 1949.” The WCHS said it was bought by Merv & Mary Reber about 1952, and they sold it to Westate Theaters around 1989.
The 1955 Motion Picture Almanac listed it as the Dixie Auto Vu, capacity 200, owner Ivan H. Hunt. The 1955-56 Theatre Catalog had the capacity at 240, owner R. M. Reber.
From what I’ve found it had a soft opening on August 6th 1949 with “India Speaks” and “Ringside”. Built by T. Gay Myers and Byron O. Thornton for a cost of $32,000. Ivan Hunt was listed as the manager in 1950 but apparently Byron Thornton still owned it as a news item states he leased the theater to United Intermountain Theaters who “reopened” on April 12 1951 with “Destination Moon”.

By 1993, the drive-in had been demolished. Only the outline, ramps, and foundation for the projection booth/concession stand remained.
By 2004, the property had been resurfaced removing almost all the remaining traces of the drive-in. Only the foundation of the projection booth/concession stand remained. And that was removed by 2016.
